So, my trip to Buffalo Exchange and Beacon's Closet were both successful. I only brought a weekender full of clothes because I didn't have many clothes up at school that were s/s and unwanted. Despite my small load, I still made about 20 bucks. My friend, who carried in two giant Ikea blue bags milkmaid style plus a few backpacks had many out of season or poor condition items rejected, but still she managed to sell about a hundred dollars worth! Albeit some of that money will be going towards the trip to the chiropractor for her broken back, she still got cash. Helpful tip for next time - Beacon's gives you back 35% while Buffalo only gives you 30%. I found that Beacon's bought more of our things, most likely because the size of the store is two times bigger.
I am home for the holiday weekend from school and in Connecticut at home. The money I got for the clothes I sold is coming with me to the Goodwill Outlet. This place can only be visited while in a good mood and I suggest ingesting some nutrients or carbs or something before you enter a Goodwill outlet because you are in for some blood, sweat, and possibly some tears of glee, subsequently after a good bargain is made.
At this GW, you are forced to dig through bins of clothing and accessories. Nothing is divided by gender or age or size... you just sort of have to dive in. It's quite fun actually once you start finding the diamonds in the rough. And the best part is you pay by the pound. Its only $2 a pound or something and you end up getting so much for pocket change. My favorite things to pick up here are oversized men's cashmere v-neck sweaters, crazy silk blouses, and wacky waist belts Goodwill KNEW were meant for me to have.
And now about the first picture of me evarrrr. My friend who works at a photography studio and is a photographer himself was bored the other day at work and asked a girlfriend and I to come by and get some pictures snapped. Here I am in a cozy nook in the wall where a window used to be; surrounded by camera equipment that costs way more money than I am worth.

You don't need money to look beautiful. sometimes a beautiful heart is enough to look beautiful and from your blog, I can gather that you are very beautiful at heart.

Love the photo of you! I didn't realize that Goodwill had outlets. I'll have to see if we have some in the San Francisco area. But it does sound daunting. That's amazing that your friend made $100 selling her stuff. I get so annoyed by how much those stores reject so I almost never try to sell anything. Hope you're feeling better soon! ReplyDeleteI'm gathering clothes together from my mostly out-dated closet and taking them to Buffalo too! You're totally right about how to sell. they have to be the right season and in good shape and it's best to cut out the tags of the not so great brands. I've made some good money this way. But at Cross Roads I'll always take the store credit they offer.
ReplyDeletei loooove that sweater. if you're ever in california, you should try selling at the wasteland. they mark their prices higher, so you get more money for the stuff you sell to them. =]
